Starbucks to expand parental leave benefits for parttime employees

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) -- Starbucks is increasing parental leave benefits for part-time employees, both men and women, who are welcoming a new child.
Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol spoke with employees who noted the importance of new parents having family time.
Starting in spring, mothers who give birth can have triple the amount of parental leave. Meanwhile, parents who did not give birth, but are welcoming a new child will have double the amount of leave. This includes families gaining a new child through a partner, surrogate, adoption or long-term foster.
Currently, store partners receive six weeks of paid parental leave. Now, birth mothers will receive 18 weeks of leave and parents who did not give birth will receive 12 weeks at 100% of their average pay. To be eligible, partners only need to work an average of 20 hours per week.
