'HWK TUAH,' 'IUSUX' 'ON METH': Indiana BMV's 2024 rejected license plates
Dec 17, 2024
(WXIN/WTTV) — "HWK TUAH." "TRK NUTS." "IUSUX." "F WORD." "PMP JUICE." "ON METH." "MOOO0." "PETTYWAP." "420mary."
What do these phrases have in common? They were all rejected as Indiana license plate numbers over the past year.
The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles released its comprehensive list of rejected personalized license plates that were submitted between Dec. 10, 2023, and Dec. 10, 2024. Since the start of the year, nearly 1,000 personalized license plate requests have been denied in Indiana.

Ranging from online slang and political statements to outright slurs and profanity, the list includes humorous and ridiculous requests for custom plates. For a full list of the rejected PLPs provided by the BMV, scroll down.
By far the most requested (and rejected) phrase was some variation of "Hawk Tuah" - the viral meme from June 2024 in which 21-year-old Tennessee woman Haliey Welch imitated the sound of spitting while describing a risque act during a street interview.
"Hawk Tuah" variations that Hoosiers attempted to sneak past the BMV included: HWK TUAH HAHKTUA, HAK 2UH, HAKTUA, HAUK 2AH, HAWWK TU and hawk2wa. At least 15 versions of the phrase were amongst the 998 rejected in 2024.
Other requests were more Indiana-specific with college rivalries coming to the surface. "NDSux," "IUSUX," "DUKE SH T" and "PUR DUCHE" were among the ones rejected.
