APEX, N.C. (WNCN) — A new video, obtained by CBS 17, shows the dramatic crash when a flatbed truck slammed into an Apex business Saturday morning. Police say the man driving the stolen truck had just attacked two people.
The video shows the truck heading toward Apex Coins and Currency on East Williams Street in Apex and plowing right through the store. The crash left massive damage, and the town of Apex condemned the building.
“It’s devastating for me,” said Donnie Seagroves. He owns City Barber Shop, which shares the building with Apex Coins and Currency. He worked there for 35 years exactly. “I started December the 13 of 1989 and Friday was December the 13th.”
He’s grateful his shop was closed Saturday morning when police say Racqueab Overton attacked someone at a nearby gas station, then attacked another person – stole the truck and drove it through the coin shop.
When Seagrove heard about the crash, he immediately thought of the owner of Apex coin and currency. Fortunately, no one was inside at the time of the crash.
“He was normally there. He was out of town, came back late, decided to sleep in. It saved his life,” Seagroves said.

According to arresting documents, Overton is charged with a list of crimes including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault with serious injuries, and vehicle theft. No one came to the door of his listed address when a CBS 17 crew knocked.
Now the owners of the damaged businesses are left with a lot of damage and uncertainty. After 35 years in the same place, Seagroves isn’t sure what’s next. He says it will be up to the owner of the building whether to rebuild in the same location.
For now, he’s asking customers to leave their contact information in a slot in the door of the barbershop so he can contact them when he figures out his future plans.
