EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A total of seven firefighter units were at the scene of a structure fire early Tuesday morning, Dec. 17, after an RV caught fire at a construction site in Sunland Park, Sunland Park Fire Department Battalion Chief Ramiro Rios said.
Rios said they received a call at around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in reference to a possible structure fire at Sunland Park Drive and Doniphan Drive.
Rios said once they left the station, they could see heavy smoke in the area, and upon arrival, they discovered an RV fully engulfed in flames and six semi-trailers that were exposed to the fire. One of the trailers ended up catching fire.
"The RV is going be a total loss. We do have some damage to the tractor-trailer right now. We're trying to get into the trailer and extinguish the fire that's in there right now," Rios said.
Personnel also conducted a primary search of the RV and no injuries have been reported.
"As of now we don't have any injuries and we don't know of anybody that may have been inside that trailer," Rios said.
Two units from the Sunland Park Fire Department responded to the fire along with four units from the El Paso Fire Department and one unit from Dona Ana County.
"So we don't have any hydrants in this area, so El Paso Fire was able to provide water for us as well as Dona Ana County," Rios said.
The Sunland Park Police Department also responded to the incident and provided entry to fire officials.
"Sunland Park Police respond to all structure fires and then they assist us in any way they can. In this case, they were able to assist us with forcible entry into the gates," Rios said.
The cause of the fire currently remains under investigation.
