CRRUA says it missed deadline for storage tank upgrade
Dec 17, 2024
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- The Camino Real Regional Utility Authority says its customers will be getting a notice of violation about a missed deadline for the installation of a splash pad at one of its storage tanks.
CRRUA said it will be sending out a notice of violation it received from the New Mexico Environment Department about the missed deadline for installing a splash pad at the Tierra Madre water storage tank.
CRRUA now 91.3% compliant in correcting deficiencies identified by NMED
The utility says a splash pad helps prevent soil erosion at the base of the water storage tank caused by overflow. It does not affect water quality, the utility added.
The Camino Real Regional Utility Authority provides water and wastewater service to Sunland Park and Santa Teresa.
CRRUA says it is allowed to submit a response to NMED and customers about the violation. This is what the utility said about the notice of violation:
“CRRUA acknowledges Deficiency #23 regarding the inadequate splash pad due to dirt erosion at the Tierra Madre Tank. Addressing this issue is a priority; CRRUA has secured an engineering contractor to review the erosion and will address the NMED deficiency based on prioritization of critical needs. CRRUA is collaborating with engineers to develop a cost-effective approach for erosion control at the Tierra Madre Tank. We understand the community's concerns and assure you this matter is being addressed with diligence. CRRUA anticipates completion within the upcoming year. Your patience and support as we work to enhance the reliability and safety of our water utility infrastructure are greatly appreciated.”
Deficiency No. 23 is listed as number 50 in the CRRUA Progress Checklist that tracks corrections to deficiencies identified by NMED in its 2023 survey of the utility.
CRRUA said it has corrected an additional six deficiencies, bringing it to 91.3% compliance. Of the 58-deficiencies NMED identified, CRRUA has now corrected 53. The six deficiencies CRRUA corrected are numbers 51, 53, 54,56, 57 and 58, all of which were water tank inspections.
The Progress Checklist is updated as corrections are made and is available for viewing on the home page of the CRRUA website at crrua.org.
