WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - Robert F. Kennedy Jr, President-elect Donald Trump's pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, met with senators on Monday. Many Republicans are on board with this pick, while some Democrats have voiced concerns about his qualifications. The meetings on Monday were a sort of soft launch for RFK Jr. as he faces some pushback for some of his wide-ranging views. "Bobby's going to get confirmed,” said Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.). Republican senators like Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin and Florida Senator Rick Scott feel positive about Kennedy and his mission. "I'm completely supportive of what he wants to accomplish, and I wish him the best of luck,” said Scott. There is some concern around some of RFK Jr’s claim that vaccines cause autism and that one of his advisers filed a petition to revoke approval for the polio vaccine in 2022. President-elect Trump says not to worry. "You're not going to lose the polio vaccine,” said Trump. Massachusetts Democrat Senator Ed Markey fears an HHS run by RFK Jr. would bring back an era of families fearing diseases. "My hope is he does not get any democratic support,” said Markey. Some Democrats have expressed some interest in Kennedy because of his ideas about ridding the nation's food of additives but none have given their seal of approval.
