KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office’s special response team and SLED were involved in putting detainees back in their cells at the detention center.
According to Sheriff Lee Boan, around 15 detainees were refusing to go back in their calls early in the afternoon.
Sheriff Boan says the jail’s personnel did what they were suppose to do, and insured the public was never in any danger.
Aside from the effects of pepper spray used on the detainees involved no one was injured.
Sheriff Boan believes at least one of the contributing factors to the unrest may have been overcrowding with the current detainee cont being around 156, which is nearly double its rated capacity.
