Armstrong/Strinden administration welcomes Cabinet leaders, sets expectations
Dec 17, 2024
BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — On Monday, December 16, Governor Kelly Armstrong and Lieutenant Governor Michelle Strinden held their first meeting with their full Cabinet — where they set forth the concepts and expectations that will presumably carry on throughout their tenure in North Dakota's highest positions.
According to a press release from the Office of the Governor, during this initial discussion, Armstrong and Strinden used their first meeting with the Cabinet to outline the expectations they had for the next four years of North Dakota's government.
"We're resource-starved. We don't have the bodies to do these jobs. And by the way, that's not a North Dakota problem. That's a national problem," Armstrong told KX News. "So we have to get creative. We have to figure out a way to do it. But if you do it well, you do exactly what government should do. It should hold people accountable. It should offer them an opportunity to improve. And it should give them a little bit of grace."
Major topics discussed included a focus on the current administration's priorities (workforce health, behavior health, and reform and relief for property taxes), as well as a return to "the core functions of government" such as improving services and responding to state concerns.
"One huge piece of this is going to be property tax relief and reform," Armstrong says. "Working through that, communicating with legislators, listening to their ideas, trying to get everybody on the same page as you can when there's 50 different bills introduced. But it's a priority for the citizens of North Dakota and a priority for the administration. And it will probably be the biggest change from Governor Burgum's budget."
