WILSON, N.C. (WNCN) — A parent was arrested Monday on a felony charge after barging into a Wilson high school and strangling a student during an attack, deputies and school officials said. The incident happened Monday morning at Fike High School at 500 Harrison Dr. North in Wilson, according to a statement from Fike Principal Ross Renfrow. Alamance County middle school teacher charged after shoving students, documents say Renfrow said a parent entered the school and was initially told to report to the office. "The parent did not report to the office and instead assaulted a student in the hallway," Renfrow said in the statement to families. The assault was linked to a "situation that happened outside of school," the statement said without elaborating on when or what triggered the attack. CBS 17 file photo of Fike High School Renfrow said he and staffers responded immediately, "diffused the situation and escorted the parent out of the building." The parent has been charged in the case after school officials worked with the Wilson County Sheriff's Office, the statement said. Quinton Earl Lofton was arrested and charged with felony assault by strangulation and disorderly conduct, according to the Wilson County Sheriff's Office. A brief statement from Wilson County deputies said the suspect entered the school Monday morning and "did not report to the main office and assaulted a student from an isolated incident that had occurred outside of school." The parent will not be allowed back in the school in the future, Renfrow said. "The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Please use this situation as a reminder that we will not tolerate violence or threats against our students or staff," Renfrow said.
