ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Back in 1998, Senator Chuck Schumer pledged to visit all 62 New York counties per year to better help understand specific needs for each individual area.
Schumer said Monday that he believes visiting each county regularly is necessary for his daily work in the U.S. Capitol. Because of his travel, he said he was inspired to pitch the CHIPS & Science Act, which has spurred $110 billion across Upstate New York.

"The reason I do it, is I really learn so much when I go to these counties," said Schumer. "It's much better visiting these people and talking to people than it is being on the phone or reading things. You meet, you go there and you see it and you see the warp and the joy, or the pain and anxiety on people's faces and it really makes you work even harder."
Schumer has been visiting every country each year for 26 consecutive years.
