FRESNO, Calif. (KGPE) - Mothers Against Drunk Driving wants teens to know the real-life dangers of impaired driving. The group stopped at Fresno's McLane High School on Monday because they say with the holiday season, it is more important now to get their message across to teens. MADD brought Manual Russ as a guest speaker to the event. Russ is a victim and survivor of a drunk driver. He was hit head-on by a drunk driver as he drove to work at 1 a.m. in September of 2018. An incident that dramatically changed his life. "It left me completely blind and an amputee. And pretty much my face, my whole left side of my body is full of hardware, and I can't pronounce it, but cadaver bones. And you know one of the first things when I came out of the coma and found out what was going on, one of the first things that went through my mind was, 'I have to get my story out there and help people,'" said Russ. Russ encourages those who are going to drink to be responsible and have a backup plan like a rideshare, taxi or plan to stay the night. MADD wants young people to know the power they have to make smart decisions.
