WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A downtown Wichita collaboration space is collaborating with a nonprofit.
The OnRamp Hub, started by the Department of Defense, shares military technology with the public. The OnRamp Hub in Kansas is moving part of its operations from Wichita State University to Groover Labs.
The cofounder of Groover Labs, Tracy Hoover, says the OnRamp Hub is a giant stride for the nonprofit.
"They want to be here, Groover Labs because they recognize that we're an innovation center here in Wichita, and then they bring their own network and partners to the table that we would love to bring into our orbit," said Hoover.
DOE says it will no longer pursue transmission corridor in Kansas
The partnership started last summer.
"One of our main focuses is, is physical product development; we've been working with several companies individually. We worked with greenfield robotics on improving the electronics on their ag robot," said Hoover.
Tracy says Groover Labs were her late husband Curt's vision. She says this next step continues his mission to move the lab forward.
"I feel like having an organization here that is interested in prototyping products and building physical products is really helping," said Hoover. "Helping further his desire to develop products here at Groover Labs."
Curt didn't live to see this partnership, but Tracy says it would've completed his vision.
"There's nobody like him," said Hoover.
Honoring her late husband with a positive next step for what lies ahead.
"I'm really excited about the future for Groover Labs."
The Defense Innovation OnRamp Hub will move into Groover Labs in the next few months. The OnRamp Hub has a membership agreement for the next two years.
