Two men charged for flying drone near Boston Logan Airport

BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced two men were charged Monday in connection to allegedly flying drones in “hazardous air space” around Long Island and Boston Harbor.
Jeremy Folcik, 32, of Bridgewater and Robert Duffy, 42, of Charlestown were charged with trespassing, breaking and entering, and violating a municipal ordinance or bylaw.
On Dec. 14, Boston police were sent to the abandoned homeless and hospital campus on Long Island around 10:30 p.m. on reports of “unmanned aircraft being flown in hazardous proximity to Logan Airport,” according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
On the Long Island campus, officers allegedly found the two men on the second floor of an abandoned building.
The District Attorney’s Office said Duffy told police he had been flying a drone that was in his backpack.
Police used the drone’s serial number to gather data which showed six recorded flights on Dec. 14 and seven recorded flights on Dec. 7.
According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the Long Island campus has “no trespassing signs” on structures throughout the island.
Additionally, the men allegedly told officers they were brought to the island by boat, but did not know the name of the man who transported them.
The defendants were released and ordered by the judge to not operate drones, as well as to stay clear of Long Island.
Folcik and Duffy are set to return to court for pre-trial hearings Feb. 6.
