Viral dashcam video leads to aggravated assault arrest in Socorro

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - A dash camera video that went viral on social media led to the arrest of a 39-year-old man for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in an incident that happened last month.
Luis Carrasco, 39, was arrested on Friday, Dec. 13, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a $30,000 bond, according to the Socorro Police Department (SCPD).
SCPD said that on Nov. 15, officers responded to a residence near the 400 block of Sun Temple Dr. in Socorro, regarding an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon that occurred at the 10800 block of North Loop Dr.
The victim provided officers with a personal dashcam video showing an unknown individual pointing a handgun at them, SCPD said.
SCPD said the video was subsequently shared on a local Instagram page where in went viral.
On Dec. 13, SCPD's Criminal Investigation Division (CID), with assistance from the Patrol Division and the Traffic and Criminal Interdiction Unit, conducted a traffic stop on a man believed to be the one seen in the dashcam video.
SCPD said Carrasco admitted to being the offender in the incident and he was subsequently arrested.
A search warrant led to the recovery of the firearm used in the assault, SCPD said.
