2 homes burn in southeast Bakersfield a couple blocks apart: BFD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Arson investigators were busy Monday morning after two separate structure fires ignited within a couple blocks from one another.
The first structure fire was reported on Augusta and 3rd streets at about 10:15 a.m. The Bakersfield Fire Department arrived on scene and stopped the fully engulfed structure from burning nearby buildings.
The home was a total loss, and BFD Battalion Chief Brad Ward says it was vacant and was previously burned. No injuries were reported during the blaze on Augusta St.
Bakersfield Fire Department firefighters also battled a structure fire at Texas Street and Milham Drive, at about the same time as the blaze on Augusta St. The home on Texas St. was also believed to be vacant.
"Nothing is truly vacant. It is boarded up, but we do have a lot of homeless that will live inside the structure, so there's always a lot of safety risk when we do have to go in," said BFD Capt. Stephen Vizzard. "So we do have to perform a primary search when we go to every vacant structure to make sure that there is no homeless or anybody inside. In this fire, we didn't find anybody here."
If you know anything about either of these structure fires, you're urged to call Bakersfield Fire Departments arson hotline, at 1-877-347-3847.
