All lanes of north Interstate 805 were reopened to traffic Monday afternoon after a hazmat spill of oil late Sunday prompted several lanes to be shut down for more than 12 hours. All the lanes were reopened around 12:25 p.m., Caltrans San Diego reported on social media. The problem first began shortly after 11:30 p.m. Sunday when two vehicles crashed on I-805 south of state Route 52. The condition of the drivers wasn’t immediately available. Officers ended up closing all but one lane through much of the morning after discovering that about eight gallons of engine oil spilled as a result of the crash, a California Highway Patrol spokesperson said. Traffic was backed up for hours as hazmat crews worked to clean up the spill. By 10:40 a.m., all but one of the lanes had reopened and nearby on-ramps that had been closed also were open to traffic, according to a California Highway Patrol online log. The entire freeway reopened nearly two hours later.
