ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Multiple scams are making the rounds. Local sheriffs spread the word on social media Monday. Phone scam Monday, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office posted to Facebook that a phone scam is going around at random, convincing people to pull out money to then hand over to a courier. According to deputies, the scammer will go as far as coaching the victim on how to work with their financial institutions to get the job done. Anyone who believes they were victimized, is encouraged to reach out to their local police or sheriff's department, State Police, or financial institution. Mail scam Meanwhile in Livingston County, the sheriff's office said there's a scam more directly targeting homeowners in the area. Deputies announced Monday that the scam is mailed to residents "stating that they can provide the 'only' document that identif[ies] the homeowner as the actual owner." According to the sheriff's office, a town assessor called it a long-standing scam. Residents take the offer, a check is cashed, but services offered are never rendered. Residents in Livingston County looking to receive a copy of their deed are asked to request one through the Livingston County Clerk's Office.
