The mobile library is expected to travel around the community, promoting easier access to services provided by the Rochester Public Library.
According to leaders, the van will stop at senior living communities, childcare organizations, and other neighborhood centers. It will also be set up at festivals and markets. Mobile library carts will carry and display a variety of books, printers, and digital media equipment. Wi-Fi will also be available.
Monday, officials gathered to talk about the rich history of this kind of program - now reimagined.

"In 1923, the Monroe County supervisors launched the state's first traveling library that was co-operated by the City of Rochester," said Mayor Malik Evans. "The Greater Rochester area isn't known as an innovator for nothing, as I tell people. We were doing this back 100 years ago."
$100,000 in state funding supported the launch of the program. The mobile library will begin operations in the new year.
