After 42 years of serving Fresno, this sandwich shop is closing

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A sandwich shop in Fresno that has been serving sandwiches for four decades is closing on Christmas Eve.
The Sandwich Works in Fresno, on the corner of Ashlan Avenue and Fresno Street, will be closing on Dec. 24, according to Peacock Artisan Eatery in Clovis.
Peacock Artisan Eatery posted on social media that the sandwich shop has served the community for over 40 years.
The post says that the owner John has been through the ups and downs of owning and operating the small restaurant in the 42 years that he's been managing the location in Fresno.
The post on social media includes a video that shows the interior of the sandwich shop and shows a message displayed inside.
Dearest friends,
It is with great sadness and dismay that we are being forced to close.
The Sandwich Works after 42 years of serving you!!!
We have new landlords who have doubled our rent... non-negotiable!!
The message also reads that everything at the restaurant will be liquidated for a reasonable price.
The Sandwich Works is located at 2599 E. Ashlan Ave., in Fresno.
