Mild and dry weather dominates through the week
Dec 16, 2024
A patch of dry air settled over New Mexico this past weekend and sticks around moving forward. The result of this dry air for the rest of the week will be mostly clear skies and mild temperatures.
A trough will dip into New Mexico late Tuesday night and into early Wednesday morning. This trough will not be bringing any moisture but instead keeping the dry air in place. The trough will also be sending a backdoor cold front through the state Tuesday night. This front will cool off temperatures by a few degrees across eastern New Mexico Wednesday afternoon. Conditions will also be locally breezy along the edge of the front.
Later this week a ridge of high pressure will form to the southwest of New Mexico keeping temperatures above average through the week. Though on Thursday another weak backdoor front will move through the state. This front will cool temperatures off again on Friday.
Over the weekend, the ridge of high pressure will continue to strengthen and move over New Mexico bringing warmer temperatures over the weekend.
