Temperatures stay mild this afternoon with light cloud cover across the state. The cause of this unvaried weather is dry air over New Mexico. A patch of dry air settled over New Mexico this past weekend and does not look like it will be moving anytime soon. In fact, weather patterns coming over the next week will only be reenforcing the dry air. The result of this dry air for the rest of the week will be mostly clear skies and mild temperatures. A trough will dip into New Mexico late Tuesday night and into early Wednesday morning. This trough will not be bringing any moisture but instead keeping the dry air in place. The trough will also be sending a backdoor cold front through the state Tuesday night. This front will cool off temperatures by a few degrees Wednesday afternoon. Conditions will also be locally breezy along the edge of the front. Later in the week a ridge of high pressure will form to the southwest of New Mexico. This high pressure will help temperatures climb later in the week. Though on Thursday another weak backdoor front will move through the state. This front will cool temperatures off again on Friday. Over the weekend, the ridge of high pressure will continue to strengthen and move over New Mexico. This ridge will bring temperatures over the weekend to well above seasonable averages. Temperatures in the upper 50's are expected in central New Mexico. Southern New Mexico could see temperatures reach the mid to upper 60's.
