Suspect arrested after 20yearold shot at Brunswick apartments

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 27-year-old was arrested in connection to a shooting that took place at an apartment building in Brunswick County earlier this month.
According to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, at 11:01 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, it received a call about a man who was shot at the Brunswick Village Apartments in Lawrenceville.
Deputies, investigators and emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, where they found 20-year-old Keon Pugh with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that were possibly life-threatening, according to the sheriff's office.
A description of the suspect's vehicle was given to the units that responded. Said vehicle was later found traveling in the 2500 block of Poor House Road. According to police, when the suspect saw the officers, they fled and ended up crashing in a nearby wooded area on Poor House Road, after which they continued to flee on foot.

To aid in the search and to secure the area, incoming units set up a perimeter and requested additional resources, including K-9s and a thermal drone.
The suspect, now identified as 27-year-old Marvin Phipps, Jr., was found and arrested without incident, according to the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office said Phipps was then interviewed and taken to the Meherrin River Regional Jail, where warrants were obtained for aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and the discharging of a firearm in public, as well as three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Phipps was held without bond.
