RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police (VSP) is warning Virginians of a phone scam where callers impersonate state police, claiming that residents have warrants out for their arrest for missing jury duty.
According to state police, there have been several incidents where residents have been contacted by a caller claiming to be a Trooper or Lieutenant Cole Jackson. The scammer will claim that the victim missed jury duty and that a warrant will be out for their arrest.
The caller will say this can be avoided by paying a small fee upfront. They will then proceed to provide instructions on how to make a wire transfer.

“Scammers use spoofing applications or different forms of technology to falsely represent phone numbers that they are calling and the phone numbers change often," VSP said.
State police or any law enforcement agency will never demand money from you to prevent an arrest or other consequential action.
If you or anyone you know has been a victim of this impersonator, or if you have any questions or concerns about this scam, please contact Virginia State Police at 757-253-4923.
