NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A New Bedford man with seven active warrants was arrested on drug and gun charges, police announced Monday. Jesse Soares, 41, allegedly evaded capture last month after leading police on a car chase. Detectives found Soares outside his Bayberry Road home on Saturday and took him into custody. Police said a search uncovered crack cocaine, digital scales, and several rounds of 9mm ammunition. A further investigation of his home turned up more than 650 grams of cocaine, 88 grams of fentanyl, a handgun with a defaced serial number, two high-capacity magazines, and more than 80 rounds of ammunition. Police also seized $5,500, believed to be proceeds from drug sales. Soares now faces several charges, including trafficking cocaine over 200 grams, trafficking fentanyl over 36 grams, and being a felon in possession of a high-capacity firearm with a defaced serial number.
