MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A man charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect is now being held on a $1 million bond after a judge described the child involved as "basically butchered." Adam Lambert was initially being held on a $200,000 bond on charges of Aggravated Child Abuse and Aggravated Child Neglect. During a court hearing on Friday, his bond was increased to $1 million. The Shelby County District Attorney's office says Lambert asked the court to lower his bond to $100,000, blaming his co-defendant for the crimes, but Assistant District Attorney Tanisha Johnson urged Judge Coffee to consider Lambert's prior criminal history. 📡 See more breaking news, local news and weather from WREG.com for Memphis and the Mid-South. 📧 Sign up for WREG newsletters and have the latest top stories sent right to your inbox. The D.A.'s office says they reminded the judge that Lambert has misdemeanor convictions across four states. They also "emphasized the severity of the offense and strong likelihood of conviction." The 2-year-old victim in the child abuse case reportedly suffered second-degree burns covering a large area of her buttocks, burns to her hand and feet, a black eye, a fractured leg, and a fractured spine. According to the D.A.'s office, Lambert did not admit to causing the injuries, but he did acknowledge that he knew about some of them and failed to seek medical treatment for the child. Judge Coffee described the injuries as evidence that the child was "basically butchered" and decided that Lambert's initial bond of $200,000 was "inadequate" and raised it to $1 million. He was taken into custody in July of this year.
