MUNCIE, Ind. — Police officers have put a Muncie woman behind bars after she allegedly confessed to striking an unruly child upwards of 20 times with a belt.
Jessica A. Woodward, 36, is currently being held in Delaware County Jail. She faces preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent, a Level 5 felony, and domestic battery, a Level 6 felony.

Finals charges will be decided by the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office, but a Level 5 felonly could carry a prison sentence of up to six years.
Court documents reveal that police were called to the woman's home on Dec. 14 due to an unruly child.
Police noticed multiple marks on the juvenile including a large laceration on his arm, a large contusion on his chest and the imprint of a belt buckle on his back. An examination at the hospital also uncovered a contusion on the juvenile's thigh.
The juvenile told police that most of the wounds were a result of Woodward hitting him with a belt approximately 20 times on Dec. 13. The cut on the arm was reportedly the result of Woodward striking the juvenile with a phone cord.
When investigators spoke to Woodward, she allegedly confessed to striking the juvenile multiple times with the belt but said it was "under 20 times."

Woodward said the child wouldn't listen and refused to do as he was told. According to Woodward, the juvenile was cutting phone cords with a knife and lighting cigarette butts with the severed phone cords. She also said the juvenile would leave the home without her permission.
Woodward reportedly told the police she felt bad about striking the juvenile, but said she "didn't know what else to do" about the child's behavior. She told officers that "she lost it" and started striking him.
Woodward also admitted to striking the juvenile with a phone cord, saying it was one of the phone cords that the juvenile shredded with a knife. She claimed she hadn't intended for the cord to cut the juvenile's arm though and was "shocked" by the result.
Court documents reveal that after Woodward's arrest, officers were informed that the juvenile had been diagnosed with pneumonia by staff at the hospital.
