Vehicle pursuit in Wisconsin ends with driver rescued from partially frozen Baraboo River

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) - A vehicle pursuit through Wisconsin came to a dramatic end Monday when the driver drove into the partially frozen Baraboo River, requiring a rescue by law enforcement.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, the chase began shortly before 10:30 a.m. when the Wisconsin State Patrol requested assistance with a vehicle pursuit on Interstate 90/94.

The suspect was allegedly driving on the wrong side of the interstate and exhibiting reckless behavior.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle veered into the Baraboo River near the Fox Glen Wayside, and the driver attempted to flee on foot. Deputies arrived to find the man in the frigid, partially frozen water, clinging to a submerged tree.
A deputy used a rescue disc device to reach the driver, who had spent approximately 10 minutes in the icy water. Law enforcement successfully pulled the man to safety, after which he was transported to a medical facility for evaluation and later turned over to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

“This incident is another great example of the partnership between agencies to bring dangerous events like this to a safe outcome,” the Columbia County Sheriff's Office stated.
