WATERTOWN, Wis. (WFRV) — Two Wisconsin men have been arrested for their alleged involvement in armed robberies at two gas stations, one in September and the other in December.
According to the Watertown Police Department, Troy Burton and Austin Rupnow, both from Watertown, were linked to the armed robbery at the BP gas station on Summit Avenue on Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, and the Speedway gas station robbery on Sept. 24, 2024.

Authorities responded to the BP gas station shortly before 10:45 a.m. on Friday after receiving a report of an armed robbery. Officers learned from the attendant that a suspect, later identified as Rupnow, demanded money and revealed a handgun tucked in his waistband. After the attendant resisted, Rupnow reportedly seized THC vapes from a plastic cabinet behind the counter and fled on foot.
Surveillance footage corroborated the attendant's account, showing Rupnow holding the weapon during the robbery. The attendant described the firearm as old, with worn black coating.
Later that day, Burton approached police with information about the robbery, identifying Rupnow as the suspect and linking him to the September Speedway gas station robbery. A search of Burton’s vehicle revealed a Glock .177 caliber BB handgun, gloves, and a black face covering, matching descriptions from the BP robbery. Burton admitted to driving Rupnow to and from the scene but claimed he was unaware the firearm had been left in his car.
Rupnow declined to speak with investigators upon arrest but was found in possession of a stolen vape matching those taken from the BP station.
