Baton Rouge seafood restaurant Boil Roux announces closure, thanks customers
Dec 16, 2024
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- The owners of Boil & Roux, a seafood restaurant in Baton Rouge, said their decision to close after 10 years in business was a difficult one.
In a Facebook post, the owners thanked customers for their support, saying Boil & Roux "has been a place where memories were created, flavors came alive, and our love for Louisiana’s rich culinary tradition was shared." They also encouraged customers to "stay connected" for updates on new opportunities.
Located on Coursey Boulevard, the restaurant faced legal and financial challenges. In April 2023, an agreement with the local government allowed Boil & Roux to retain its liquor license after being cited for operating a Cinco de Mayo event without a special permit. Court records show that in 2020, the restaurant faced an eviction lawsuit for nearly $18,000 in unpaid rent, which was dismissed in January 2021.
The owners expressed frustration, saying they "could not withstand a system that, at times, seemed set up for us to fail."
The owners, who identify as a minority-owned business, called for equal opportunities, stating, "We must be welcomed in this city to serve our community without being judged by the color of our skin. True progress comes when all businesses, regardless of who owns them, are given equal opportunities to thrive."
According to Boil & Roux's Google business profile, the restaurant is permanently closed. BRProud.com is awaiting closing date confirmation from restaurant management.
