HILL COUNTY, Texas (FOX 44) — A theft of over 34,000 avocados has been prevented in Hill County. The Hill County Sheriff's Office said deputies were made aware of a cargo theft reported to the Laredo Police Department on Thursday. Information indicated the 18-wheeler might be northbound on Interstate 35. A description and license plate was made known to Hill County deputies. One deputy found the vehicle on northbound I-35 and initiated a traffic stop. A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper also assisted in backing up the deputy. The stolen cargo turned out to be over 34,000 avocados. The Sheriff's Office contacted Laredo Police and briefed them on the situation. Laredo Police requested to release the driver, but to seize the stolen goods. The refrigerated trailer was towed to a secure location. The avocados will be transferred into a refrigerated trailer owned by the victim's company. "Holy Guacamole! That was some good police work by Deputy Hardy!" The Hill County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post.
