Four people, including one from Naperville, have been charged with stealing merchandise from the Nordstrom Rack store in Oak Brook, with one of the suspects allegedly punching and biting the officer as he was arresting her.
Alanah Booker, 22, of the 300 block of West Ogden Avenue, Naperville, was taken into custody along with Shavaughn Johnson and D’Errika Thrasher, both 18 and from Chicago, and a 16-year-old juvenile in connection with the alleged Friday night shoplifting incident, a news release from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Oak Brook Police Department said.
The adult suspects were charged with one count each of felony burglary and felony retail theft. Johnson also is facing one count of felony aggravated battery to a police officer, the report said.
The group is reported to have gone into the Nordstrom store at 2155 W. 22nd St. about 8:35 p.m. and taken more than $300 in merchandise, including clothing, fragrances and Marc Jacobs gift boxes, the report said. They were taken into custody by Oak Brook police after they left the store, with Johnson allegedly striking the arresting officer in the chest and biting his right bicep, officials said.
Booker, Johnson and Thrasher were released pending their next court appearance, scheduled for Jan. 6. They are prohibited from entering the Oak Brook Nordstrom Rack store while the case goes through court, the release said.
The teen was charged with retail theft and burglary and released to the custody of her mother, the report said.
“It is alleged … (these) defendants helped themselves to more than $300 worth of merchandise from the Nordstrom Rack store and simply walked out the door without paying,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.
“To make matters worse, it is further alleged that one of the defendants, Shavaughn Johnson, fought with and bit an officer as he placed her under arrest. I want to make it perfectly clear, as we are now in the heart of the holiday season, in DuPage County we will not tolerate any type of behavior that disrupts our businesses or threatens public safety.”
