MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A 16-year-old girl is injured after a shooting that happened early Monday morning in South Memphis, Memphis police say. According to officers, they were called to the 200 block of Vaal Avenue regarding a shooting around 2:30 a.m. A female teen was found lying on the floor inside of her home suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim told police it started when she was sitting on the steps with her friend and got up to walk into the house. That is when she says she heard gunshots and ducked, but she was still shot. She claims she did not see who shot her or which direction they went in. The other residents in the home told police they were upstairs asleep and did not hear any gunshots. After further investigation, officers say they pulled video footage from a SkyCop camera on the same street which showed the victim getting dropped at the intersection of Vaal Avenue and Castex Street. The victim was then seen walking to the home and a gunshot flash came from her, police say. When officers arrived, she was taken to the hospital in critical condition. MPD says all residents, except for the juveniles inside the home, were taken to Felony Response at that time. According to the Memphis Data Hub, police have responded to this intersection 12 times so far this year. This is still an ongoing investigation.
