Better street lighting is coming to these 14 Austin locations

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin City Council approved Thursday a nearly $1.8 million contract to improve safety and lighting conditions at more than a dozen locations across town.
Council authorized a construction services contract with DeNucci Constructors, LLC for approximately $1.77 million, coming from the Austin Transportation and Public Works Department's capital budget. The focus of the project is to alleviate dark lighting conditions by enhancing street lighting "to the recommended street illumination standards," per council documents.
The locations set to be treated are listed below and mapped:
Pearce Lane
Cullen Lane
Slaughter Lane at South First Street
East Riverside Drive at Tinnin Ford Road
West Slaughter Lane at Brodie Lane
South First Street at Barton Springs Road
North Lamar Boulevard at West St. Johns Avenue
South Pleasant Valley Road at East Riverside Drive
East Oltorf Street at Parker Lane
East Riverside Drive at Willow Creek Drive
East Riverside Drive at Wickersham Lane
West Oltorf Street at South Congress Avenue
West Braker Lane at Stonelake Boulevard
East 45th Street at Red River Street
Specific construction features will include adding new poles and lights within the right of way, installing lighting on utility poles already in the area and improving existing lights by swapping them with LED bulbs. Officials added the goal of the project is to minimize nighttime crashes and promote safer mobility for all users.
Before construction kicks off, city officials will notify area businesses and residents about the upcoming work via social media outreach and planned press releases, per council documents. Work is tentatively set to begin in January and is estimated to run for eight months.
