Six people were injured in a wrong-way crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway early Monday morning, authorities said. A driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the parkway struck another vehicle near the Lincoln Ave. exit in Rye Brook just after midnight, WABC reported. The wrong-way driver suffered life-threatening injuries, according to News 12 Connecticut. There were five people in the other vehicle, all of whom suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All six people were taken to Westchester Medical Center for treatment, News 12 reported. None of the people has been publicly identified by police. Traffic on the Hutch was diverted through Rye Brook until around 7 a.m., according to WABC. The parkway is a major connector between Connecticut, the Hudson Valley and the five boroughs. Several deadly incidents have occurred on the high-traffic road in the past. Earlier this month, a driver died in a one-car crash in New Rochelle when their vehicle went off the road and struck a utility box. Back in September, another wrong-way crash killed a 62-year-old Connecticut resident, William Saleeby. In that wreck, the wrong-way driver was drunk behind the wheel, according to police. Jose Ramon Espinal, 48, was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter. Most famously, five children were killed in a fiery one-car wreck on the parkway in March 2023 in Scarsdale. In that tragedy, an unlicensed 16-year-old boy was behind the wheel and either fell asleep or became distracted, according to investigators. He was not speeding at the time.
