OAKHURST, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - New bodycam footage was released Sunday afternoon showing what happened when a man was arrested after shooting a K-9 following stealing a vehicle.
Madera County Sheriff's Office says that on Nov. 20, at around 3:50 p.m., a reported stolen white Toyota 4Runner was seen ramming into several vehicles near a business park.
The suspect was identified as 41-year-old Allen Scott WIlliams of Mariposa. He was found a short time later and was arrested following a pursuit and shootout.
WARNING: This video provided by the Madera County Sheriff's Office may be distressing.
According to the Madera County Sheriff's Office, the incident captured on the bodycam video started when two deputies traveling southbound on Road 425B converged paths with Williams, who pulled over into a long driveway and began to flee with a shotgun in his hand.
Both deputies and K-9 Obie chased down Williams in a foot pursuit, where after warnings and commands from deputies for Williams to drop the gun, Williams stopped, turned around, and shot at K-9 Obie.
Following the shot fired at K-9 Obie, deputies shot at Williams, who dropped the shotgun and went down to the ground, where police were then able to provide medical attention until the arrival of paramedics.
According to the Madera County Sheriff's Office, K-9 Obie was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic, where he was expected to be for several days. He was expected to live but would have numerous pellets in his body. Obie was discharged from the hospital two days later and is continuing his road to recovery.
Officials say that Williams, who at the time of the incident was on probation out of Mariposa County with several active felony warrants, was transported by helicopter to a Fresno Hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery. Upon his release from the hospital, he faces numerous charges, including three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
