Man critically injured in Lawrence shooting

LAWRENCE, Ind. — One person was critically injured in a shooting in Lawrence on Sunday night.
Public police reporting systems indicate the shooting happened in the 4700 block of North Post Road around 8:36 p.m.
The Lawrence Police Department indicated that its officers were not called to the shooting scene. Rather, an on-duty officer in the area heard shots fired.
Upon further investigation, the officer made contact with multiple people who claimed to have witnessed a shooting. Those witnesses pointed the officer to an adult male who had been shot the parking lot of Don Marcos Restaurant Y Taqueria.
LPD confirmed that the victim was transported from the scene to a local hospital in critical condition. In an update sent at 12:12 a.m., LPD indicated the victim was still in critical condition.
LPD detained one person at the scene. The agency has not yet identified the individual its officers took into custody.
Investigators are also in the process of speaking to witnesses that may have seen the shooting. LPD is currently leading the investigation and is receiving assistance from IMPD.
Police currently believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation that started inside Don Marcos. That argument then spilled out of the restaurant and into the parking lot that the shooting happened in.
