The Hawaii Rainbow Wahine basketball team is set to take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday evening at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. So far this season, Hawaii has a 5-3 record with 4 of those wins coming at home. A big part of the early season success has been Freshman Center, Ritorya Tamilo. "We knew when we recruited Victoria she was going to bring something really special to our program," said Hawaii Head Coach Laura Beeman. Tamilo currently leads the team in Points Per Game (11.3) and Rebounds Per Game (5.4). The freshman also leads the team with 17 blocks on the season and is 18th in the nation in blocks per game. "She knows how to win. Watching her play in New Zealand, it was a no brainer. We were just shocked at how little she had been recruited. So the opportunity to bring her over here and work with her and develop her, you know, in our minds, it was exciting. And then to get her in here with the same attitude of, 'I really want to dominate, I want to be the best', she will represent her country one day, without a doubt. And that's exciting for her. I think that she could actually have a career in the WNBA if she continues to work and grow and puts that muscle," said Beeman. Tamilo has helped the Rainbow Wahine to a total of 57 blocked shots on defense this season and her team has held opponents to only 35% shooting this year. Next up for the Center and the Rainbow Wahine is Monday night at 7:00pm HST against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
