OSHKOSH, Wis (WFRV) - The Fox Cities Festival of Lights is back for its 5th annual holiday season at Darboy Community Park, lighting up the park with over 200,000 lights and dozens of festive displays.
Jodi Avery, a committee member of the festival, explains the heart behind the event, “One of our goals has always been to give back to the community. It’s not just a light show but a way to make this time of year about giving.”
The festival not only provides a family-friendly experience, but it also supports local nonprofits. Half of the proceeds from the suggested $5 donation go back to community organizations.
Avery highlighted the joy the event brings to visitors,, “We love to see the faces light up, hear the ooh's and aah's from the kids. It’s really important for us to make it fun and accessible for everyone.”
The event has become a beloved tradition for many local families, with some returning year after year to enjoy the lights up close.
Aubrey Jensen, a local resident from Kaukauna, shared her excitement about the event, “This is one of our traditions. We love walking through the lights instead of just driving by. And we know that donations make this possible.” Jensen, along with her children, enjoys the personal experience of walking through the display, reliving the magic of the season.
With its creative displays and strong community support, the Fox Cities Festival of Lights offers more than just a festive atmosphere, it’s a way to give back while creating lasting memories.
The event, which runs through December 29, offers visitors a magical walk-through experience along a half-mile trail, complete with new displays added each year.
