Colton Pouncy’s fantastic story on Sam LaPorta and Jack Campbell's journey from “Iowa’s odd couple” to Detroit Lions stars headline today’s notes. Depending on your experiences, working with your college roommate could be a great thing. For Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell and tight end Sam LaPorta, it works really well—despite the fact that the two are on opposite sides of the field and opposite ends of the personality spectrum.
Colton Pouncy of The Athletic wrote about the duo and how their careers in Detroit will always be linked after being drafted 16 picks apart in the 2023 NFL Draft. From killing time in the freshman dorms in Iowa City to making game-changing plays on Sundays, the two have enough in common for things to have clicked right from the jump.
“We just got talking,” Campbell said of LaPorta. “We had a lot of similarities, and I just respected how he went about his business. He’s just a competitor. I don’t know, I kind of got drawn to that. We just hung out a lot in the dorms freshman year.”
Pouncy takes you through their journey together at Iowa, up through the NFL Draft, and how they’re not taking anything for granted here in Detroit. You can read the entire wonderful story from Pouncy right here. ($)
And now, onto the rest of today’s notes:
