ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD) held a special holiday event at Expo New Mexico's Manuel Lujan Building to thank foster families for all their hard work. CYFD said Sunday's event was about recognizing the commitment it takes to become a foster parent, especially during the holiday season, which can be hard on kids. CYFD asking for roughly $413 million from state in new budget Organizers said there were games, arts and crafts, sweet treats, and even Santa Claus stopped by to spread some holiday cheer. "It's such an incredibly hard job, and this time of year just make sit stressful for everybody. So, we want to take a moment to say thank you to them and provide an opportunity for kids to come down here today and just have some fun," says CYFD Cabinet Secretary Theresa Cassados. Organizers said they were expecting close to 300 kids and their parents. The fire marshalls also collected gifts to give away to the kids.
