Person killed in Colonial Heights house fire

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) -- One person was killed in a house fire that took place Sunday morning on Lafayette Avenue.
According to Colonial Heights Fire and EMS, their crews responded along with Chesterfield Fire and EMS to a structure fire at 415 Lafayette Avenue on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 10:44 a.m.
Dispatch informed firefighters as they were responding of the possibility that someone was in the building.
Once on scene, Engine 941 found a two-story building with moderate smoke coming from the first floor as well as heavy smoke and fire coming from the back basement door.
The fire was marked under control in just over an hour and resulted in the death of one person, who was found in the basement, according to officials. No other injuries have been reported.
