CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN/AP) -- The girlfriend of the new 72-year-old UNC-Chapel Hill head football coach seems enthusiastic about the new job and moving to North Carolina. Bill Belichick, former New England Patriots head coach and six-time Super Bowl Champion, Wednesday accepted the $10 million yearly job -- with a base salary of $1 million, in addition to $9 million in supplemental income. The new coach appeared in Chapel Hill Saturday at the Dean E. Smith Center as the Tar Heel basketball team routed La Salle 93-67. Belichick's 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson seems excited about the new job and new town. “We are on to Chapel Hill!!!” she wrote beside a photo of the announcement on her Instagram Story, according to several reports. Belichick and Hudson have been dating for nearly two years, according to People magazine. Hudson is a former Bridgewater State University cheerleader -- and her team from the Massachusetts college was the 2021 NCAA Collegiate Champions. Hudson was enrolled in a cosmetology program in 2019. Hudson appears to be from Maine, with her Instagram profile claiming she is a "Daughter of Maine Fishermen." [SIC] There is at least a small family tie to the UNC program for Belichick -- his late father, Steve, was an assistant coach for the Tar Heels from 1953-55. But, moving on from the 73-year-old Mack Brown to hire the 72-year-old Belichick means UNC is turning to a coach who has never worked at the college level, yet had incredible success in the NFL alongside quarterback Tom Brady throughout most of his 24-year tenure with the Patriots, which ended last season. Minutes after the University of North Carolina announced it had hired Bill Belichick as its next head football coach, the Tar Heels’ Instagram account posted a photo of the legendary NFL coach — at no more than 3 years old — sitting in the UNC bleachers. “Welcome home, Coach,” the post read, dredging up the memory of when the young Belichick shadowed his father, Steve. If UNC terminates Belichick’s contract before June 1, 2025, Belichick will receive a buyout of $10 million. Belichick will receive a buyout of $1 million if the school terminates his contract on or after that date, according to the term sheet.
