Lobos cruise past Western New Mexico
Dec 14, 2024
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Lobo basketball team got back in the win column with a 122-70 outing against Western New Mexico on Saturday night. The team said it was much needed following the loss to New Mexico State.
The team spent all week practicing at 7 a.m. and saw a new side of Richard Pitino. The New Mexico head coach said that he felt this year's squad needs him to be "all over them" more than any Lobo team he's been a part of.
Thanks to the large disparity in score against the Mustangs, New Mexico was able to utilize its bench more than any game this season. True freshman Jovan Milicievic led all scorers with 21 points in 18:36 minutes. Braden Appelhans (18) Tru Washington (12) and Atiki Ally Atiki (10 rebounds) all came off the bench to reach double-figures.
Filip Borovicanin returned to the starting lineup. He finished his night with 13 points on 5-9 shooting.
New Mexico returns to the Pit on Wednesday as the Lobos will host VCU. That game will tipoff at 7 p.m. on the Mountain West Network.
