ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Wreaths Across America honors the fallen servicemen and women who fought for freedom in America. On Saturday, local heroes were remembered at Sunset Memorial Park in northeast Albuquerque. Construction on national cemetery in Albuquerque to start next year Volunteers laid wreaths and an American flag on each headstone as a thank you. Officials say the day is an opportunity to remind people of the sacrifices veterans have made. "At cemeteries, we are partnering with the Wreath Across America organization to honor, to remember, and to teach the next generation about how our veterans, what our veterans have done for us as a nation, and how they have paid their sacrifices, they have made for our freedoms and liberties," says Josh Glass, executive director at Sunset Memorial Park. Officials say thousands of cemeteries participate every year. At last count, nearly 800 wreaths have been laid down Saturday at Sunset Memorial Park with a goal of laying down 1,000.
