A man lost control of his Mercedes-Benz and it crashed into a 24 Hour Fitness pool on Friday night in Redlands, authorities said. The Redlands Fire Department received a call at around 9:30 p.m. reporting a submerged vehicle at the gym, 27621 San Bernardino Avenue, near the 210 Freeway. The 57-year-old man’s four-door black Mercedes had crashed through the glass panel windows of the gym’s indoor pool facility. Redlands Fire Department Battalion Chief Josh Shannon said the man had his car in reverse gear when he unintentionally drove the vehicle into the lap pool. “Thankfully, the driver, who was the only occupant, escaped with only minor injuries. The pool was unoccupied at the time of the incident and there were no injuries to anyone in the fitness center,” the fire agency said on social media. Video from the scene shows the vehicle totally fully submerged at one point. He signed a release denying medical treatment. A tow truck was able to hoist the vehicle out of the pool with no further damage to the building. The CHP’s San Bernardino office commented on the crash on Facebook, urging drivers to stay focused behind the wheel. “This shocking incident reminds us how dangerous distractions can be. A driver lost control, driving into a gym and straight into a swimming pool. Thankfully, no one was injured, but this could have been tragic,” the CHP post said.   Related Articles Crime and Public Safety | 10 hurt when Palm Springs Police motorcycle crashes into crowd on holiday parade route Crime and Public Safety | DUI driver crashes into Hemet water employee, killing him, CHP says Crime and Public Safety | Good Samaritans swim out to rescue injured driver in crash off Santa Cruz cliff Crime and Public Safety | Burglars use stolen pickup truck to smash into Goodwill store in Redlands Crime and Public Safety | Teen killed after alleged street race in Rialto ends in crash
