Boyar Trejo defeats incumbent Molinar in District 4 runoff race
Dec 14, 2024
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Business owner Cynthia Boyar Trejo defeated incumbent Joe "Chief" Molinar in El Paso's City Council District 4 runoff race, according to unofficial final results released at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14.
Boyar Trejo is the apparent winner with 2,128 votes or 54.33 percent, followed by Molinar with 1,789 votes or 45.67 percent.
Since no one got more than 50 percent of the vote during the Nov. 5 general election, that triggered a runoff between the top two finishers.
District 4 represents parts of Northeast El Paso, roughly north of Hondo Pass Drive.
In District 5, the chief of staff for Rep. Isabel Salcido, Ivan Niño, is the apparent winner in the runoff race, according to unofficial final results released at 10 p.m.
Niño has 1,210 votes or 62.89 percent, followed by social services worker and consultant Amanda Cunningham with 714 votes or 37.11 percent.
The candidates are seeking to replace Salcido, who vacated her District 5 seat to run for mayor in the general election.
District 5 represents most of the El Paso Upper Eastside, east of Joe Battle Boulevard and roughly north of Montwood Drive.
In District 7, retired educator and former District 7 Rep. Lily Limón appears to have won against political consultant and Ysleta Independent School District Trustee Chris Hernandez after the unofficial final results were released at 10 p.m.
Limón has 2,731 votes or 57.97 percent, followed by Hernandez with 1,980 votes or 42.03 percent.
The candidates are vying to take incumbent City Rep. Henry Rivera’s position.
Because of term limits, Rivera could not run for re-election. He will complete his time in office in January.
District 7 covers most of the El Paso Lower Valley and parts of the Eastside.
