Weather Forecast: Clear and cold ahead of a warming trend
Dec 14, 2024
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — It was another beautiful yet chilly day here in Rochester. Today’s unofficial high reached 30°F, but with west winds at 10-15 mph, it felt more like the low 20s throughout the day. Overnight, clouds will gradually return to the area, though they won’t prevent temperatures from dipping into the low 20s by morning.
Another chilly night is upon us. Clouds will slowly start to move back into the area as temperatures fall into the low 20s for overnight lows. pic.twitter.com/OdWuMzCdZH— Leanne Byer (@LeanneByerwx1) December 14, 2024
Sunday morning kicks off with a mix of clouds and sunshine, offering a great window for holiday shopping or outdoor plans. Temperatures will climb to a seasonable high of 37°F as milder air begins to settle in. However, with the warmer weather comes a shift in conditions. By around 2 p.m., a wintry mix will move into Monroe County. Many areas can expect snow or a wintry mix transitioning to rain as the evening progresses. There’s a slight risk of freezing rain, so if you're traveling after 2 p.m., be cautious of slick spots on the roads. By Sunday night, the precipitation will fully transition to rain, with overnight lows holding steady in the mid-30s.
8-Day Forecast
Monday ushers in a much milder pattern. A warm front will boost daytime highs to around the upper 40s, with temperatures continuing to rise into the evening. Rain will be brought along with this warm front, but will likely not move into the area until late Monday evening. Isolated rain showers will linger throughout much of Tuesday morning before clearing out. Highs for the day will be in the 40s before colder air returns midweek.
Cooler air makes its return starting Wednesday, but we will likely remain above freezing. Our eyes then turn to our next storm system, which looks to make its way into the Rochester region at some point Wednesday afternoon. Much like Sunday's system, this system will likely start off with a rain/snow mix. However, unlike Sunday's system, colder air will rush in as a cold front associated with this system slices through our area.
It's time to break out the winter storm tracker. A wintry mix will likely impact the Rochester area starting tomorrow afternoon. For the rest of the week, a chance of snow showers is possible as temperatures barely reach the freezing point. However, temperatures will take another dip downwards as we head into next weekend. Temperatures will remain in the mid to upper 20s for highs for both weekend days. The chance of snow showers looks to taper off into Sunday. We will keep you up to date here at RochesterFirst.com and on News 8 at 6 and 11 tonight.
