Will San Diego have a white Christmas?
Dec 14, 2024
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, even in sunny San Diego. Could there be snowfall on the holiday this December?
The odds, as most would expect, are slim.
According to the National Weather Service, the San Diego area has gone 131 consecutive years without a white Christmas -- at least since records began.
"Something tells us this streak will remain unbroken," an official with the weather service commented regarding this year's winter weather outlook.

For snow to form, the atmospheric temperature needs to be at or below freezing, which is 32 degrees Fahrenheit. As explained by meteorologists, when water droplets in the air freeze into ice crystals, snow forms. Again, this would require the temperature to drop below freezing.
How cold will it be on Dec. 25?
According to the weather service's temperature outlook for the next two weeks, San Diego temperatures will likely be above average -- 60 to 70% above average to be more precise.

Looking ahead to the next week, meteorologists anticipate warmer weather as Santa Ana winds are possible. Wednesday is the most favorable day.
