ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The University of New Mexico (UNM) announced Saturday that University of Idaho coach Jason Eck has been hired as the new Lobo football head coach. Eck is a veteran coach with 26 years of experience at the FBS, FCS, and Division II levels.
According to a press release, Eck has led the Idaho Vandals to three straight playoff berths in the FCS, including the quarterfinals the past two seasons. In the 22 years before Eck's arrival, the Vandals totaled just two winning seasons. Idaho has increased its win total each season Eck sas been head coach.
"I am thrilled to have Jason Eck as our next head football coach," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Fernando Lovo in a statement. "Jason has led Idaho to tremendous success, turning around the program and building upon success year after year, through recruiting, teaching, and a strong culture."
Eck will be replacing Coach Bronco Mendenhall after it was announced earlier this month he was leaving for Utah State.
