Residence fire on southeast side of Indianapolis leaves 82yearold woman dead

INDIANAPOLIS — A residence fire on the southeast side of Indianapolis left an 82-year-old woman dead Saturday night.
According to a press release from the Indianapolis Fire Department, dispatchers received a call around 4:41 p.m. from person who said they were trying to extinguish a fire in the 5200 block of Chisolm Trail with a hose.
IFD units arrived at the scene at 4:47 p.m. Firefighters confirmed at least one person was trapped inside a residence at 4:48 p.m.
Smoke was showing from a single-story structure when IFD arrived at the scene — which was located near the intersection of East Thompson Road and South Arlington Avenue.
IFD confirmed 11 of its units responded to the area. The fire was marked under control 4:54 p.m.
Firefighters located the 82-year-old decedent at approximately 4:52 p.m. Subsequent searches of the residence revealed nobody else was home at the time of the fire.
The decedent's family told IFD the woman lived alone. The woman's family members also told officials they check on her daily.
Per IFD, the decedent is believed to have lived in the home for more than 30 years.
IFD is still investigating the cause of the fire. IMPD homicide detectives were also called to the scene to investigate, as is standard procedure when IFD responds to deadly fires.
